Rock The Park

Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 13th when Rock The Park, free outdoor concert, will be held at Kanawha State Forest from 11 AM to 5 PM with five great bands, yummy food, and lots of family fun!

Classic car cruise-ins are encouraged with reserved parking to show off your classic or custom cars and trucks.

We’re going to have two raffles this year. One will be a 50-50 cash raffle. The other will include great prizes such as a 2-night stay at the Cacapon State Park lodge, a 2-night stay in a Babcock State Park cabin or 2-nights of free camping at Kanawha State Forest.

There will be a variety of interactive exhibits inside the new KSF Nature Center, plus fun lawn games, including cornhole and putt-putt golf. Craft vendors will be on-site with lots of handmade goodies and kids can enjoy free face painting.

You can bring your own picnic or enjoy a hot dog with chili and slaw, chips and lemonade by donation. Frozen treats will be available for purchase from Sweet Buy and Bye Ice Cream, a veteran-owned ice cream truck.

Hope to see you there!

Winter Walk–1/15/22

Shirley Schweizer Memorial Winter Walk
Saturday, January 15, 2022

The 2022 Shirley Schweizer Memorial Winter Walk at Kanawha State Forest was a real plunge into the Davis Creek restoration project! Biologist Doug Wood led a group of hikers down the Davis Creek Trail to explain why the historic dam, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, was removed so the creek could be returned to its natural flow. He waded into the chilly water to explain how new structures will help control and guide the flow … B-r-r-r!

First Day hike–2022

Saturday, January 1, 2022

The heavy rain in the early morning cleared, just in time for the afternoon hikes to welcome in the New Year. There were four guided hikes, plus the DEP’s Dennis Stottlemyer was on-hand to share an update on the Davis Creek restoration project.
